    Owner, President

    A lifelong entrepreneur coupled with being a residential and commercial tradesman veteran, Steven Saunders was already an accomplished carpenter and general contractor before he decided to blend his eye for detail and business instincts when establishing Saunders Construction in 1979. As the company grew, he moved out of the field and began overseeing more of the day-to-day operations. A partial list of the types of projects he has completed include the following; supermarket remodeling, together with additions and design-build of the Irvine Ranch farmers market at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles, building custom homes and residential remodeling in Orange County, new commercial, rehabilitation and remodeling, state and city government projects, commercial and residential including low-rise apartment complexes and mixed-use projects involving low-income housing, museum and commercial space, structural and seismic strengthening of entire buildings (mostly occupied) as well as, industrial, commercial, retail, residential, high rise, historical buildings, and parking structures.

    Project management inherently requires team building with the right personnel and experience related to a specific project. With years of familiarity in the supervision of our projects and consulting he has found that communication between all parties is essential. You should have a company with knowledge in coordinating the activities of the contractor, sub-contractor, owner, tenant, architect, engineers and all trades and consultants involved. This is essential in providing you the client with alternates, changes and acceleration cost review that could possibly save time, money or both.

    Vice President

    Amber Zamora started her career with Saunders Construction over 15 years ago as a contract administrator handling all facets of project documentation; including contracts, insurance, permits, subcontractor documentation, developing construction schedules, and delivery of weekly updates to clients. She has also developed and implemented company policies, an injury illness and prevention plan, company procedures, and assisted with office expansions in both Northern California and Washington. She then transitioned into management and provided training and oversight to her previous duties. Amber is a highly talented visionary who has a knack for identifying and capitalizing what ultimately affects business and growth. She excels in estimating functions, budgeting, take-offs and project development along with oversight that further benefits the client deliverables and services. She also actively attends industry events and seminars, assists Steven Saunders in all functions of the company management, and strategic planning for company growth. Her main passion is focusing on project coordination and quality assurance, client relations, and strategic planning as this is where Saunders Construction consistently delivers the quality and expectations their clients expect and deserve.

    Controller

    Having 40 years of professional experience in various aspects of accounting and operations within the hospital and construction arena, Susan Hill has been with Saunders Construction since 1995. Prior to this venture Susan gained her knowledge from beginning her professional career as a Payroll clerk at the Tustin Community Hospital, processing bi-weekly payroll for 250+ employees advancing to Staff Accountant at Concept Health Group, and before her start at Saunders she was the Accounting Supervisor at Tustin Hospital Medical Center handling daily responsibilities such as overseeing payroll and payables, controlling all cash flow to facilitate recovery from prior year operating losses, being responsible for equipment inventory, renegotiating equipment leases, including disposal and replacement of capital leases as well as maintaining receivable loans and reporting. At Saunders Susan started as the bookkeeper/office manager, responsible for billing and collections, payables, payroll, preparation of monthly financial statements, and maintaining insurance coverage. She also hired and trained additional staff as the company grew while helping with the development of new policies and procedures.

    Susan prides herself on experience, knowledge, and creativity to achieve company goals and standards; protecting company viability by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls; enforcing adherence to federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation and advising management on needed actions. She actively contributes to team efforts to accomplish company objectives and maintain the highest quality customer and team relationships possible.

    Project Coordinator

    Katie Slater started her professional career with Saunders in 2007 focusing on Project Coordination, Quality Assurance, and Client Correspondence. She began at Saunders Construction working as an administrative assistant, handling all facets of project documentation; including contracts, insurance, permits and business licenses, subcontractor documentation and coordination, development of the construction schedule, delivering weekly updates to clients, data entry of bids into estimating software, creation of job files in accounting software, creating and distributing preliminary lien information to vendors, maintaining spreadsheets for status updates on all projects, closeout packages for clients, and permit paperwork. She also assists the project manager with client communications, scheduling, change orders, tenant coordination, tracking of the weekly project progress with foremen, RFI’s, and plan submittal. You will also find Katie assisting our Controller with the issuing and entering of purchase orders, and setting up AIA documents. She often assists the Estimating department with the RFQ from vendors and subcontractors in addition to creating bid files based on plans for clients. Her knowledge of programs such as Goldmine, Foundation Software, SSD, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project is immeasurable and a quality that Saunders benefits from daily. Katie strives to provide excellent communication to our clients so that you experience a successful project; including the execution of required project documentation, construction schedule, and client communications. Working with all team members to keep project correspondence running efficiently and effectively, as well as delivering prompt communications to our clients on a consistent basis is her highest priority.
