Steven Saunders
owner president
Steven has been in construction for a lifetime! He started working as a carpenter/ framer at the ripe age of 16 for several years before moving on, to remodeling homes and finish carpentry. After working on commercial and industrial projects, he found his forte and decided the company would focus exclusively in this sector. Saunders Construction Inc., was established in 1979 performing seismic retrofits and structural repairs for soft-story, commercial and industrial buildings. In 1983, Steven was asked to perform the first URM, masonry building seismic retrofit in Los Angeles, that created the first division 88 code for the city of Los Angeles.
As the company grew, he moved out of the field and began overseeing more of the day-to-day operations. A partial list of the types of projects he has completed include the following; supermarket remodeling, together with additions and design-build of the Irvine Ranch Farmer’s Market at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles, building custom homes and residential remodeling in Orange County, new commercial (strip centers), rehabilitation and remodeling, state and city government projects, commercial and residential including low-rise apartment complexes and mixed-use projects involving low-income housing, museum and commercial space, structural and seismic strengthening of entire buildings (mostly occupied) as well as, industrial, commercial, retail, residential, high rise, historical buildings, and parking structures. Steven’s construction experience is vast and extensive with a wide array of specialty niche ventures.
Steven developed and refined systems and processes for the field and office divisions of Saunders Construction, enabling the company to continue to grow and prosper year after year. Steven has found that communication between all parties is essential after years of supervising projects and consulting. It is essential to have an experienced, knowledgeable company coordinate the activities of the contractor, sub-contractors, owner, tenant, architect, engineer and all trades as well as consultants involved in order to provide clients with alternates, changes and acceleration cost review that could save time, money or both. Saunders Construction, Inc., is very well respected in the industry due to the integrity, hard work and persistence in which Steven has built the foundation of the company.
