NAIOP-U: Alternative Development Uses/Considerations& CREW’s Industrial Summit

Saunders attended NAIOP’s Alternative Development – Uses/Considerations Program as well as CREW’s Industrial Real Estate Summit last month. There was a plethora of insightful and informative information shared at each event.

The Alternative Development program explored new or alternative development uses in the public storage, data center and EV charging stations space. Each one was represented with a market leader that provided extensive knowledge and perspective in each alternative use space. The Irvine Company was represented by Vice President, Harpal Sadhal, a veteran in the public storage sector. It is no surprise The Irvine Company has taken the lead in Orange County in this space as their real estate footprint in OC is vast and dynamic. The data center overview was incredibly fascinating with a brief history in where this segment originated as well as substantial statistical data relating to the amount of electricity needed for these specialized buildings to perform and run sufficiently. In fact, data centers started in Northern Virgina. Just outside of Washington D.C., a new kind of capital has been developing and expanding since inception. Northern Virginia, Fairfax and Loudoun counties have become home to Data Center Alley, the internet capital of the world, over decades of innovation, government incentive, and private sector investment. Christine Metzger, Senior Vice President, representing CBRE offered an abundance of information and a comprehensible synopsis of this often-intimidating sector. Finally, Max Levenstein, the Finance and Real Estate Director with Rove presented their findings on the emerging market of Full-Service EV Charging Centers and their future in the market. Overall, it was an enlightening program in each area of alternative development.

The Orange County CREW Event – Industrial Real Estate Summit

This event focused on the industrial sector of commercial real estate and uncovering the latest trends, forecasts, and market conditions shaping the landscape. It was certainly a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing, networking, and strategic growth. We learned about the latest insights and strategies from key professionals including Ami Barrett, Senior Vice President with JLL; Mackenzie Ford, Manager, Investments with Prologis; Rachel Hickenbottom, Senior Vice President, Development with Link Logistics and Scott Mulkay, President of Construction, with Birtcher Development. All of which contributed value-added details regarding the industrial sector. The panel was moderated by Angela Gomez-Jones, Partner with Endeavor Agency.

Both events were fascinating and beneficial for Saunders to take in and pursue what we do best.
